Spitsters,
OK, this is kind of a silly question(s), but... The transmission is out of a
'79, a single-rail. It has a gearshift lever with a curious assembly.
Starting at the bottom of the lever is a ball that fits into the
transmission, a spring, a plastic 'washer', a spring retainer, a weird
rectangular sleeve welded to the lever. Now, the spring retainer can be
removed, but the spring and plastic 'washer' are trapped on the lever by the
ball at one end and the sleeve on the other. How do you replace either the
spring or washer ? Looks to me like you would have to break/grind the welds.
What is the purpose of the rectangular sleeve ? Did Joe Lucas have anything
to do with this ?
