On my 71 the switch is under the column in a small black round box.
The switch can be removed by pulling it from the back.
It has a plastic key slot on the side of the switch body.

Actually Tim, I did those bolts a couple of months ago.  While my car does
not have the switch in that spot, I did find it very easy to hack saw those
of by holding the blade in my hand.  They are obviously soft metal.

Re. Dead ignition..
Checked out the solenoid (see previous mail) and everything is fine,
managed to get it 'clicking' and the starter turning...
So traced my electrical fault to the ignition switch which is the old
type on a 1500 (ie down the bottom of the steering shaft) anyhow, the
switch has had its day and is truly knackered...
So how easy is it to drill out those shear bolts while the collumn is
still in the car, I would like to not have to remove the whole column if
I can help it...
Any hints as to the best way to drill them out?
