Alan,
Pulling on the crank pulley (or operating the clutch while someone watches
the pulley, not running) will reveal some forward movement. Mine moved
forward enough to produce an audible "click". According to the machinist,
that's a sign of a worn TW. A tight engine should move hardly at all. They
can wear enough to drop into the sump which means very bad things for the
crank and the block as they contact each other.
<< Folks what are the symptoms of these wearing out. I am trying to track
down the noises (near the front left?) in the engine and a vibration at idle
that really makes the engine etc wobble. She runs fine at speed.
