Stephen,
You have the "Federal" dash which was common to Late US Mk3's.  The Thomasson 
book while good as far as it goes, does not cover the
Unique differences for the US spec Spitfires.

That said, the rear lights should in fact be the later type with the center 
plinth that contains the single reverse lamp.  Is there a
single rectangular logo that says THRIUMPH on the right side of the boot lid?  
Earlier Mk3's has the separate TRIUMPH letters across
the width of the lid and the Script Spitfire Mk3 on the right side.

Look at the windshield frame and see if there is a plate riveted there and see 
what number is on that plate.
