Barry,

Push-start the car to save battery. Keep the revs low (this will keep the
current used by the ignition, and probably the injection, lower). Most
importantly, make sure you have AAA card or equivalent, mobile phone and a good
book!

Good luck!

My (GM) alternator gave up the ghost just as I turned into the parking lot
this morning - way overcharging, pegged the 30 amp gauge at just over idle,
etc. Anyway it looks like I'll have to go home on battery juice only.
This is a half hour trip, and even using no other electrical devices
(lights, radio) the car running probably draws about 15-20 amps (electronic
fuel injection, pump injectors, etc.). Does it appear that I will be able
to make it home with a decent (2 maybe 3 year old) group 42 battery? I
have to start the car too remember, and there will be no charging before,
during and after -
