trans front oil seal

When I put an overdrive on my 1500,  I had to take the whoel trans apart, 
and I could nto find the front oil seal, or ever find a place where it goes. 
  In parts catalogs, they show there being one, and you can buy it, but 
where does it go?  Can anyone help me?  Thanks.
