Jim,
I should have been more specific in my original answer. The time
frame that I was referring to was late '70s-early '80s. The SCCA
defined stock much more rigidly than it does today. There was
very little allowance for increasing tire sizes, and rim width
was also limited. As I told someone else off the list, I had
a friend who installed a 1 inch smaller diameter steering wheel
in his Lotus Europa, and was dropped into prepared class as a
result. I know that today's SCCA Solo II GCRs are much more
open, but I don't Solo any more, preferring to spend my time
with 'real' race cars. (I work Flagging and Communications for
CART and SCCA races).
Cheers,
Doug Mitchell
