Hello again gang,
I am just spewing questions today. Freddy the Spit is a 77 frame and tub
with a 69 1296 engine - hence dual SU's. The PO rigged a simple accelerator
linkage consisting of a bent piece of aluminum and the original 77 cable -
not pretty but it works. I have a nice pattern for a better arrangement
that Joe Curry was kind enough to share - hope to get to that this winter
too. The choke linkage is a problem - it is just the original 77 single
carb choke cable hooked up to one of the carbs, with the interconnection
rods between the two activating the choke on the other carb (hope this
makes sense).
The problem is that this works fine for the carb that the cable is actually
hooked to, but on the other carb the choke will stick on almost every time.
It does not matter which carb I hook the cable to, the other will always
stick. I have tried cleaning and lubricating everything, there is just not
quite enough oomph in the choke return spring without a little help from
the cable being pushed in.
So, all of you out there with dual SU's, what are you doing? I see that
various Triumphs with OEM dual carbs have a sort of forked cable
arrangement that works on both carbs at once - is that the answer? I am
completely open to any and all suggestions on this - Freddy is about the
least original Triumph in the land anyway - he would give a Concours Judge
apoplexy! ;-)
TIA
Kevin Rhodes
