They probably weren't the 9:1 pistons. But you can tell with a piece of wire. Pull the sparkplugs out so the engine rotates freely. Take a length of soft wire (copper is nice) and insert it into the sparkplug hole of your choice. Rotate the engine until you can move the wire around over the surface of the piston pretty easily and thoroughly. What you're after is feeling a dish. The 9:1 piston is flat faced, and the others are dished about 1/4". You can feel this dishing pretty readily this way. |
