Transmission cover seal:

I recently replaced the rotten oil-soaked cover with a black plastic one.
Not sure if it's ABS, but it is a great fit and won't soak up the oil like
the old one.

To seal it, I bought a tube of silicone calk. Put a 1/2" bead around the
entire perimeter, then place a strip of plastic about 2" wide over the calk.
Set into place and lightly tighten down the screws. The idea is to not
tighten enough to squeeze all of the sealant out but enough to let it take
the form of the metal beneath it. Dries in about 24 hours (unless you put
on a lot of sealant!!) and the result is a perfect "custom molded" gasket.
