Drilling holes is NOT a "not a wise idea" it is really really stupid. If you
do then you have to treat each hole with a chamfer and then magniflux and
that weakening by the holes still might fail and then your next job will be
kiss your crank, block and other parts good bye.
The oil pumped through the con rod bearings leaks out the edges and as the
crank spins the oil is sprayed around the inside of the block. That's why
there are oil control rings at the bottom of the piston. They scrape the
sprayed oil off the cylinder walls.
