Hi Geraint
My first question upon reading your mail was to ask "why". Do you perceive a
problem with the standard lubrication system in that area of the engine?
In my humble opinion drilling holes in the con-rod is not a wise idea, the
rod end is subject to a massive amount of load in the form of tensile and
compressive stress, not to mention the temperature changes that they go
through over the period of one engine cycle. Drilling into the main bearing
area will not doubt reduce the oil pressure in that or those main bearings.
The drop in pressure may in fact be marginal, depending upon the size of the
hole, and could be compensated for by increasing the oil pressure throughout
the system.
I hope this helps.
