Spit List:
I have great memories of the trip a friend of mine and I took in my '70
Mk III in the spring of '76. We left from Chicago and went to Mardi
Gras in New Orleans for four days then went to Ft. Lauderdale for spring
break. I don't know how many miles, my guess is around 5,000. No
breakdowns, no problems. That single Stromberg was wonderful during the
post energy crisis and 55-mph speed limit (35 to 40 mpg).
Regarding the Spit Club, I'm not particularly keen on having a direct
image of the plane associated with the emblem. However, the RAF
insignia's are pretty low profile in my mind. If someone outside the
club sees that and recognizes what it is that would indicate they
probably have some historical knowledge of the link between Triumph
manufacturing and the plane. Utilizing a low profile image like that
would provide a reasonable link to the historical background yet
preserve the due respect to others who may have stronger feelings
regarding the military background. In this way, others who would like
to indulge in their own personal Spitfire interests would be free to do
so.
Best regards,
Ron St. John
