Paul,
Just another quick thought - if you contact British Motor Heritage, they
can provide build details for all cars produced by BMC / British Leyland /
Austin Rover / Rover Group. This is an organisation entirely owned by what
is now Rover Group, to look after the heritage of all the wonderful, and
now mostly defunct, brands that were absorbed by Rover (MG, Triumph,
Austin, Morris, Austin Healey, Riley, Wolesley, Standard, Rover, Land Rover
- any more?) For a standard fee, if you give them chassis and engine
numbers they will tell you exactly when your car was built, what its
original specification was etc. Contact them at:
The Heritage Motor Centre
Gaydon
Warwickshire
CV35 0BJ
ENGLAND
Telephone: International access code, then 44 1926 641188
They can probably tell you a lot more than I, or indeed anyone else, can
about exactly what your car should be!
