Reed,
            I painted my Spit this summer and replaced the "goop" with seam
sealer and found that you can carefully tape off where you dont want the
sealer on easier than you can wipe it off later. After taping,I applied the
sealer,(with a calking gun) smoothed it wuth my finger,and removed the
tape.It came out quite well. You can practice all you want,it would take 500
Spits to use a tube of this stuff.
