I'm sure you will get opposing views on this one...that always seems to be
the case. When my TR4 was my everyday car in the 60's and 70's, I replaced
the stock system with a couple of Stebro's and an Abarth. They never really
seemed to last very long (same as standard I guess) but were much more
expensive. I loved the sound and 'felt' a marginal improvement in
accelereation. The replacement cost got to me and I went to Midas so at
least the muffler would be replaced free. Four years ago I replaced the
still good Midas system with a Falcon Stainless Steel figuring that that
would be the last system I would install. The sound reminds me of the stock
system. I have also purchased the Falcon system for my TR4A but it is not
installed yet.
Last summer at TRF's Summer Party I picked up the Monza system for the
Spitfire and installed it along with a header that I picked up from Ted
Schumacher at TSI. I LOVE the sound and the performance seems to have
picked up somewhat also. I know others will feel it is too loud but it
doesn't bother me and did I say that the sound is great!!!...makes that
little engine sound tougher than it really is :-)
I have made two or three hour drives and did not find it too loud. Next
week it will be a 10 or 12 hour drive to the Summer Party and we'll see if
I feel any different then!
Don't know if it really helps with your decision, but it is my $0.02 worth
---since that's Canadian, I guess that's not much :-)
Cheers
Keith
