After rambling on about having to cut the lower A-arm bolts to
replace the bushings because they were in "backwards" I was informed by
Mike Lindsay that the brackets are easily removed, allowing me to
remove the bolts which otherwise would not clear the front suspension
subassembly. I had thought they were not removable! Kinda dumb of me now
that I think about it, considering the fact that I do have a manual for
the car. Kudos to Mike for setting me straight on that. Thanks to
everyone else with advice on engine/trans mount replacement too.
I'll finish off the front suspension and mount replacement in the
next few days. Then I will work on some rust removal (not too bad) and
get the engine in shape. I started it and ran it for about 5 minutes a
few days after I got the car; it seemed fine but I want to change the
oil/filter again and clean the cooling system some more. I also remember
that the generator light was on while it was running so I'll check the
charging system too.
I have not driven this car so I don't even know if the drivetrain
is sound. Soon I'll take it up and down my street and find out.
How many miles is typical before the rear axle bearings go out?
How long do the tranmission and diff typically go?
thanks, David
