I once brought along some tools on a visit to Michigan, because my kid
said she was having some trouble with the car she then owned (and which
she'd gotten resolved before I arrived and didn't let me know), and one
of the things in the carry-on bag was a timing light, which might have
looked in an x-ray like a gun to the untrained eye. Thinking it was
better to let them know _before_ they x-rayed the bag, I voluntarily
opened the bag and showed it to them, in order to explain to them what
it was.

I was a little surprised when they absolutely freaked out--because they
thought it _was_ some sort of gun.

Can't win for losin'.

Cheers.
