Go to a hardware store, or Sears, or sum such place and get a couple of
thread pitch gauges -- one SAE and one metric.  Cost a dollar or two each,
and then you can always find out what pitch nut or bolt you're dealing with.

I just did some rust repair on the floor of my '66 Ranchero.  Not a big
repair, but I had to replace the part where the seat belt bolts to the
floor.  All that's left to do is to thread the hole for the mounting bolt.
Here's the problem........I have the stock mounting bolts, they're about
7/16", but the thread isn't fine, isn't course, and isn't metric.  What size
tap do I need?
