I want some taller (3.07 or 3.08) gears to replace the 3.73 gears I currently have in my 12 bolt, 6 lug, truck rear (circa 1965). I am unable to find a complete replacement rear with the right gears, so I guess I'm going to buy a ring and pinion set and change out the gears. I have rebuilt engines, but never a rear end. How tough is this to do correctly and what kind of special tools are needed? Should I take it to a specialist instead? Help!
