Hope these answers to the questions you asked help.
Q. Does anyone know if you need to grease the pilot bearing that goes into the
end of crank shaft, before you install the transmission?
A. This type of bushing doesn't need oiling before it goes in, although, it
won't hurt anything to oil it; use a heavy oil on the bushing and slide it
in.
Q. Does the bearing go on the transmission spline or into the crank when
installing?
A. It goes into the crank shaft; the bearing is a loose press fit into the
crank shaft.
Q. What does this bearing do, being that the crank and the transmission spline
turn together?
A. The crank and the transmission spline turn independently of each other at
different speeds.
