The seal can be changed without dropping the pan, but you need a special
tool...KD makes one. If you drop the pan, you can then remove the
horseshoe spacer and the nut, and remove the shaft, and pry out the
seal. Install the new seal by driving it in, using a socket that is
just a bit smaller than the outside diameter of the seal. Put some
sealer (such as Permatex Aviation gasket sealer) on the outside of the
seal, and ATF on the inside lip.
You may need to use a file to deburr the shaft where the inner linkage
piece bolts on, to get the shaft out without messing up the hole in the
case.
