Tom,
I had to have my heater core restored on my 57 Chevrolet
Belair. I was in the same boat you were but through advice I took it
to a radiator shop and they made it as good as new since it is nothing
more than a mini radiator. Try and find a radiator repair shop that has
been around for a long time, they will have experience with the older
style heat exchangers.
