It's not the coil, unless the original and a new replacement are both bad...
I already tried (hopefully) that one. :)

The general consensus is to start at the battery and move back one accessory
at a time.  I hope to get time to check that this week and will definitely
post the results.  The PO did some rewiring, and it appears that some things
are incorrect.  I've considered splurging on a new harness and starting
over, but hoped to hold off on that until some other things are done.

The only seemingly strange thing I've noticed is a bulb glowing behind and
to the right of the speedo any time the ignition is on (even if the lights
are off).  I haven't explored the source, but it seemed odd to me.
