Hi Ross,
I would be inclined to check your brake light switch first. I am not
familiar with the 1987 Morgan as mine is much earlier, but you will either
have an electrical (generally mounted near the pedal somewhere) or hydraulic
switch (generally mounted in the engine compartment). Follow the brake
hydraulic lines from the pedal to locate the later. Chances are you just
have a loose wire or bad switch.
