There's one small disadvantage to "that loose sheet of plywood" as opposed to
a box...
Say (just for a theoretical example, for talking purposes only) that the
driver weighed 290 pounds (this is only theoretical, now). That 1/4" piece of
plywood is not only flexible, it's downright flimsy, and might end the driver
up (if there was such a person, mind you) sitting on the floor board after a
heavy bump, thinking about what might happen at 60 mph if the FLOORBOARD
broke....
Such a theoretical person might (if he existed) replace the plywood with a box
such as Bob described, OR he might reuse the front and rear blocks and steel
strap and replace the plywood with 5/8" oak plywood, which (under this man-
sized and well-carried weight, assuming he were real) might still give a
decent ride.
