>From personal experience with several late 50's to mid 60's Morgans
(both +4 & 4/4) I can verify that the chassis number is indeed stamped
on the cross member just below drivers knees on rhd cars (or passenger
side on lhd).

The main problem is the faintness of its stamping as others have
mentioned. One +4 passed thru 2 owners, none of whom could successfully
find the stamping even though they looked in the right place.  The
problem was filling by primer before painting.  Sanding didn't reveal
it, but scraping with a putty knife or dull chisel did.  This is
something that can be hard to do with nicely painted chassis member but
sometimes it's the only way the number becomes visible!

John and Will, keep looking it's there unless your chassis has had metal
cut out and replaced.
