If your engine number has L as its last digit, and you are certain that
the engine has not been modified, 87 octane is fine.
If your engine number has H as its last digit, 89 octane is a safer
choice.
With ignition max advance at 32 BTDC and in good tune, if engine
knocks/pinks when you are climbing a hill at 2500 rpm, try a higher-octane
blend.
My engine, 9.5/1 compression, likes 89.
