The electric oil gauge _would_ respond to tach pulses, but in a significantly different way to how it should respond. But then the tach wouldn't work - and that wouldn't respond to an oil pressure sender. It doesn't even begin to explain how - apparently - both oil gauge and tach were working normally before the alt change, and both apparently are now, having swapped over an apparently previously used white/back with an apparently previously unused white/brown.
