You can get rough running if the brake booster diaphragm is leaking.
Disconnecting and plugging the hose is a good way to test for that. If
you're drawing brake fluid into the carburetter, then you should find it
on the inside of the hose. If you do find fluid, the master cylinder is
leaking and needs rebuilding (along with the booster). Brake effort
with the booster disconnected will be considerably higher.
