'Turbo' or turbines were in use long before turbos started to be fitted to car
engines, they were being used to power water mills in the 19th century :o)
Your Jag wheels where probably so-called because of the physical appearance
and superficial similarity to turbine blades.

can't help noticing that at least as early as 72 car/part makers were
already using the word 'turbo' to mean 'sporty' rather than anything to do
with turbochaging (always bugs me, for some reason) - the jag has as an
option 'chrome turbo disc wheels'.
