Pete,
First instinct is this isn't worth saving (financially). I bought a BGT
that needed a LOT less work than this (1 new sill, 1 replacement front
wing off eBay, minor mechanical and electrical repairs, brake rebuild to
be on the safe side) for a give-away price, and I'll still be lucky if
it cost me less than I could buy one for in the same condition.
Although I did have to pay someone else to do the welding (and paint the
wing), which was a large chunk of my total cost.
If you enjoy bodywork and welding, it may be worth it. If you want a
car to drive, I'd strongly advise parting it out and buying something
else.
On one point - the +ve ground. Makes no difference to the engine what
the ground is, as long as the dynamo/alternator is producing the right
sort of voltage for the car. Does anyone know if the starter motor will
still spin in the correct direction, or if it will need to be swapped?
I guess you could pull the starter and connect it to a battery each way
around - if it spins the same way, it doesn't care!
Richard & Sammy (got new jets & needles last night, should run better
once I get a chance to tune them!)
