I just got the car a couple of months ago, and my brother had it for about 8
years before that. No front end collisions in that time, but who knows what
happened before that. There are no obvious signs of a collision - the bumper
is unscratched - but maybe that's the problem.
How much of a gap is there on your '79 between the bumper and the front of
the body where the grille would have to come out?

Howard,
Maybe you had a font end collision sometime in the past?
That may have pushed the bumper in slightly??
My grill comes out fairly easy with just a little coaxing.
I may have to bend the rubber bumper a little, but I do not have a problem
getting the grill out.
The grill is in fairly tight, so if the bumper moved in just an 1/8" of an
inch, you will not get it out.
