It isn't uncommon to get a 'crossover' car near to change points, it all
depended what the factory ran out of shortly before a change or had left
over after a change.
The 74 1/2 car as such is well-documented but is an unofficial description,
it basically represented the change from chrome to rubber bumpers but in
terms of the length of the description of what changed is one of the
longest. It got a new engine (18V 836/837) for North America which changed
again (18V 797/798) for the 75 model year.
It seems to me that calling it a '74 1/2' was somewhat of a misnomer as it
occurred in Sep 74, and the most popular month for model year changes was
August, although it could range from May to December. By contrast the
changes for the 75 model year were minimal and only for North America, and
being in Dec 74 was the only time it was that late. The terminology was
probably more to do with when they could get the publicity material out.
What engine does the car have? It, or parts of it, could have been changed
for an earlier or later model. It also depends on how accurate the Parts
Catalogues are at your usual sources. The top hose didn't change on the
1974 1/2 car for any market but the bottom hose did, to BHH 1693, for North
America with heater only.
