Now I'm a little confused...I thought the solenoid was either open (in 4th
gear) or closed. How does hooking up the vacuum lines reversed change its
operation? In any case, I'm planning on reconnecting the lines to my solenoid
(disconnected by a PO) again and I'm now wondering which way round it should be
connected? Does the port pointing at the manifold connect to the manifold and
the port pointing at the distributor connect to the vacuum advance? That seems
the logical choice. Or...should I bypass the solenoid completely and just go
directly to the distributor?
Any advice appreciated!
thanks,

Thanks again for your accurate descriptions of how things are supposed to
work. I pulled the TCSA solenoid off of the pedal box to clean and examine
it and found it to be working properly. What wasn't working properly was the
"volatile RAM" that I apparently have in place of actual grey matter. I had
switched the vacuum lines around and thereby allowing the manifold to vent
and capturing vacuum in the line to the distributor. Idle is now stable and
set to specs. Thanks again. This list is invaluable
