Dennis,
To prepare a new engine for startup, (assuming oil is already in the engine)
I always remove the plugs and spin her up on the starter motor until oil
pressure appears on the gauge. That ensures oil has circulated everywhere.
Put the plugs back in, and start her up. Watch for oil and coolant leaks for
the first minute or so, stand back while all the new paint burns off
everything, and crack open the bottle of bubbly to celebrate!
