Those are the likely suspects at this point. If you want to check the cable
without sliding under the car to check where the cable does, indeed, connect to
the transmission, just unscrew it from the back of the speedo and pull the
cable out of its housing tube to check for integrity. Sometimes it balks at
going back in, but eventually it will and this is a good chance to get some
lithium grease on it to ease the turning. Keep the grease away from the cable
section closest to the speedo, though, as you don't want any migrating into the
speedo. I can tell you that very comincal sorts of things happen if you get
grease in the speedo. If the cable is OK, then you MUST slide under the car
and attack the angle drive, although I do not believe all have that. But I'll
stop now 'cause I'm just guessing from here.
