Barrie,
One of our club members has headlamps with a running light fitted
inside. I asked him for his thoughts about your question. His reply is
below.

Bob,
I have a pair of Lucas H4 Halogen Conversions on the A
which I purchased from Brown & Gammons--their part #
L54051482, LHD. They come with a pilot-light hole
that is manufactured into the reflector. I then used
the fog-light wire that is in the wiring harness and
connected that wire to the ignition switch. The pilot
lights, like those on the VWs are on all the time. If
Barrie has a set of cables with the pilot, then he
most likely needs a light unit similar to this one.
