Hi Skip,
If you check out http://www.crutchfield.com they have a real nice selection 
utility for audio gear.  If you plug in your manufacturer and year they'll show 
the sizes of the speakers, radio etc.
As far as the placement, at least on my '76 the door panels have cut marks 
for were the speakers go.
