The greatest contributors to the deterioration of rubber are
ozone, excessive heat, and sunlight.  So the best storage
conditions would be in a dark cool place, and perhaps sealed
in a container with desiccant.  The ideal would be "canned"
with all oxygen removed as the military does with some
items.
