Marc, my '76B ran for years with the stock ZS and no catalytic converter,
and was very happy. It did have the 'test pipe' you mention. When I moved
to NJ I was told that they physically inspect for the cat-con so I had one
reinstalled. Now that I have historic plates (i.e., no more inspections) I
will probably remove it at some point.
