I think your 'good fuel flow' is probably inadequate.  Even if the pump were
on the way out e.g. supply-pipe non-return valve failing causing the rapid
pumping, if enough fuel were reaching the carbs the engine would continually
to run normally, especially at idle.  Either you have another problem that
caused the engine to die (not impossible) or the pump really is knackered (a
technical term meaning 'no good').
