I have a 77 MGB with a 3-spoke replacement wooden steering wheel
installed by the DPO. I need to get it off to replace the turn signal
switch. I refuses to give into my will. I tried the double knee
method. The BFH method also failed. I also bought a steering wheel
puller from a chain autoparts store. The wheel puller is "T" shaped.
Two carriage bolts are inserted through the top of the "T". I suppose
you have to bolt the carriage bolts onto something that catches the rear
of the steering wheel hub. The leg of the "T" is a treaded bolt with a
point that is placed against the center steering column bolt as the
puller is tightened to pull the wheel towards the top of the "T".
However, the top of the "T" is not wide enough to for the two bolts to
go on the outside of the hub. It appears that the DPO drilled a hole
through the hub back plate in an attempt to put one of the puller's
carriage bolt through. Will I do damage if I try to use only one side
of the puller? What should I use to pull the steering wheel? Will a
three claw gear puller work? Any help is appreciated.
