If it was the belt to begin with, it may have been damaged. The belt could have
had smooth spots burned into it. If so the belt will need to be replaced.
You can check the belt visually. Look at the surface of the belt that contacts
the pulleys. If it is undamaged, it should have an even, flat no gloss color.
If it is damaged, it will have some glossy spots on it, or it may be completely
glossed. Be aware that this test is purely subjective, and as such ir prone to
some degree of inaccuracey. IMHO,It would be prudent to just proced with
replacing the belt in question.
