OK, I'll bite... what's the "point" of buying a dual point distributor if
you immediately replace the points with an optical trigger?

It seems to me you just threw away the only justification for the
expenditure -- the timing and spark is going to be exactly the same as with
a stock distributor using the same optical trigger kit, no?

The argument that "...you get a new dist. which means new bushings etc" is
rendered meaningless when you go to the optical trigger, which doesn't care
if the bushings are wobbly. And, as someone noted, you can always re-bush
your Lucas, for far less money than a new Mallory.

I mean, I can accept that a dual point distributor is an improvement over a
single point distributor (heck, my Plymouth has one). But it seems obvious
that you erase that distinction as soon as you remove the points from the
equation. I'm sure your set-up works fine, but I certainly wouldn't
recommend it as a general practice, if only from cost/benefit
considerations.

If you're near Mountain View, CA,
it's the red one with the silver bootlid.
