Apparently Australians can't spell gauge either.

Actually (for me anyway) it's one of those words that doesn't "look right"
either way. It should be "gage". Unfortunately "gage" is "Any of several
varieties of plum, such as the greengage" according to
http://www.dictionary.com. Kind of hard to tell your speed with a plum.
