I think it is possible to fix them, but I opted for not, as the details of the
fix were not very agreeable to me.

All the heads are interchangable. Only details you have to worry about are:
With the '77 there was a water hole for the water choke on the carb that is not
used in any other year. And G engines don't use the same valve train & lifter
system. You need to preserve the one on your engine. (18Gx only work with the
18Gx series and the 18V only with the 18V series.)
