John, I think the key thing here is "non streamlined". I have heard it said
that the MGB cannot go much faster than the 120mph range then it begins to
fly. Not a good thing at 120mph.
There are plenty of MGB V8s that have enough power to exceed 120mph, maybe
even the 131mph range, if you keep them on the ground. Now, if you add
"streamlining" or ground effects that's another story.
I suppose the bottom line is, with the 4 cyl. car you'll run out of power
before 120mph, and equipped with a V8 you run out of aerodynamics.
In Max's post he said the Le Mans car was *geared* for 131mph, that doesn't
mean it went 131mph???
