The book MG by McComb, 2nd ed, shows both. Stirling did the 1957 run with car equipped with a tail stabilizer. Phil Hill's 1959 record ran the car without the tail. I believe that Phil Hill did the preruns for 1957 and had broken the old records, but as the PR was set up for Sterling, STirling drove 181 again to set the official records.
