I'm originally from England, now living in California. I used to use a cream
cleaner called Jif in England it doesn't scratch the metal but removes surface
rust quite easily, if you know anyone in England have them ship you a bottle.
Works good on a lot of things. Anyone else tried this...?
I don't know about gasoline...!

Subject: Steering Wheel Rust
Out for a spin in the high-60 degree Central NJ weather today - even saw
a CB BGT and chatted at a stoplight for a moment!
The rust spots on my steering wheel spokes are finally getting to me....
Any suggestions on easy ways to remove them? There is no 'pitting', just
appears to be some light, scattered surface rust. Thought I heard
something about gasoline as a remover? Perhaps not. Any help is
appreciated!
TIA...
